New Year - New Budget Problems

Monday is the first day of the 2009 legislative session. Congratulations to all newly elected state representatives and here is hoping their new session that starts next week will be high on productivity and low on political posturing.

The budget will prove to be difficult, although doable if the Republicans all work together. I expect great things from the new Governor in waiting.

Jan Brewer is showing what many already know about her. She has good instincts, great savvy and sound judgment. Her recent picks for the ninth floor are noteworthy:
  • Kevin Tyne is a perfect pick for Chief of Staff. He has the experience and the heart it will take to do a good job. He rarely gets frazzled and understands the legislature.
  • Richard Bark knows policy like the back of his hand. And, he has a great relationship with legislators. As a former House chief of staff and policy wonk, Richard is ready to go.
  • Brian McNeil comes with the background and experience also needed to hit the ground running. It does not hurt that he has worked with Brewer in the Senate.
Expect powerful leadership and common sense solutions to Arizona problems.
