New Direction: New Opportunity

It looks like Arizona is heading in a new direction. The current governor will most likely take a new post under the Obama administration sending our Secretary of State, Jan Brewer, to the ninth floor. Jan is more than qualified and with the makeup of and new leadership in both Houses, conservatives will most certainly be able to get a decent budget signed, sealed and delivered.

If they all play their cards right, in 2010 Republicans may have a chance to hold on to the Governor's seat, Secretary of State and both Houses. The real problem will be getting the media to play fair.

Opportunities on the federal level are fewer and farther between. We did not fair so well. Although, it could have been worse...at least there will be some leverage in the Senate. The Republican Senate leadership has their hands full. What will be interesting to watch is how the Democrats do with their new presidential power...patience is a virtue.

And as soon as Jan Brewer is sworn in as the Governor, the Arizona Republic, East Valley Tribune, Arizona Daily Star and Tucson Citizen will wake up and declare that Republicans have created a huge economic crisis under the state budget.

I agree with Shane Wikfors.

Fortunately, in that scenario, Governor Jan Brewer is incredibly capable and will tackle the budget crisis head-on. She has the experience, leadership and conservative credentials Arizona desperately needs. Plus, we have fresh faces at the Capitol with Senator Bob Burns and Speaker Kirk Adams. As Republicans seek silver linings, I contend a Brewer-Burns-Adams trio should not be underestimated.

The 2008 campaign season is barely over and folks are already jockying for the 2010 state seats. Can't blame them. Afterall, previous experience indicates that the "first" one in usually wins. Of course I am talking about
primary contests.

(Note: there is always an exception to the rule, such as if someone gets appointed before the election year starts, or if a candidate outspends their competition by 2:1. Otherwise, first one in wins.)

Here are a few names that have thrown their names out there for
consideration. Feel free to add to the list.

Republicans
Governor: Joe Arpaio, Jan Brewer, Tom Horne, Dean Martin, Len Munsil, John Munger, Mary Peters

Attorney General: Eddie Farnsworth, Hugh Hallman, Andrew Pacheco, Andrew Thomas

Democrats
